House League

To commemorate the lives of Andrew and Rebecca Sears

The Durham West Girls’ Hockey Association presents, on an annual basis, to a Novice player in the house league program, the Sears Memorial Award. This year commemorates the 8th Annual presentation of this award.

The Sears family has been involved with our hockey association since it began in 1993. Rick and Sharon have shared many triumphs and good times in hockey, and have also lived through the loss of their youngest children Andrew and Rebecca.

It is Rick and Sharon’s request that this award be given to a player who best exemplifies Andrew and Rebecca. These two young children fought valiantly to defeat their illness. Their strength and spirit brought the people around them closer together in a common goal and they encouraged all of us by their example.

The player to receive this award should be someone who is respected by her teammates and coaches, and demonstrates a willingness to work hard and encourage others by their words and actions. This player may not excel in the game of hockey, but their tenacity towards achieving their personal best is admired by all.

The 2006/2007 season’s recipient of the Sears Memorial Award is Sydney Wells.
