High Performance Elite Hockey Program

Durham West is proud of its continued success at the elite levels. We have combined the best athletes with the best programs to achieve the ultimate in player advancement. Our work at the grassroots level by very dedicated coaches earned two gold medals at the OWHA Provincial Championships last season, including at the Midget AA level. Our signature Junior Lightning team earned 2nd Place in the Provincial Womens Hockey League and a silver Medal in the League Championships. Last year the association placed 5 graduate players, 25% of the roster, on the Ontario U18 team. Post secondary player advancement to schools both in Canada and the U.S. continues to be impressive. Approximately 12 players played NCAA D1 last season and several more played D3. The association has literally dozens of players playing at the CIS level. Our graduating players from both the Midget and Junior teams this year have been recruited heavily and will be assets to whatever school they choose.

His experience also includes 6 years of coaching in the OMHA at the AA and A levels, and at the High School level . Greg O ' Connor will coach our Tier 2 AA team for the second straight season . His extensive work with the Oshawa Boys AA and AAA teams will be an asset in advancing his team skills to the next level. His patience in working with players will foster a positive learning environment.

Bantam AA
Paul Maugeri will head up our Bantam AA team. Paul has been as assistant coach with the organization for the past 4 seasons and was an assistant coach with the Bantam AA program last season.

The strength of our program lies in player and team development. Coaches are committed to working together for the betterment of all the girls on these teams. We use several methods like consistent systems, shared practices and extensive use of call-ups to further develop our players both on and off the ice. Durham West is the leader in player development in the OWHA.
