Wayne McDonald – Head Coach
Wayne was the Head Coach of the 2009/2010 Midget AA team in Durham West. Wayne has over 15 years of Coaching experience in both boys and girls hockey. Some highlights include:
- Won North American Silver Stick Midget AAA Raiders, 2003/04
- Won All Ontario Championship – Midget AA Ajax Knights, 2002/03
- Personal, 3 daughters, 1 son, 3 in University all have played University Varsity sports.
2 daughters play in the NCAA – Son played in the CIS

John Goodwin – Assistant Coach
John, has held various Coaching posts over the years – most recently John has been a Head Coach or Assistant Coach in the both the Whitby Wolves or Scarborough Sharks organizations. John also spent years coaching in the Whitby Boys hockey association.
John’s impressive Coaching resume includes:
Oshawa Generals Head Coach – 1996-1999 OHL
Oshawa Generals Assistant Coach – 1993-1996 OHL
Went to Memorial Cup as a Assistant Coach with the Oshawa Generals
John’s hockey playing career includes: OHL leading Scorer -1980/81, OHL Rookie of the year 1978/79 – Turner Cup Champions IHL. Signed with Montreal Canadians – participated in their training camps.
Lyndsey Ryan – Assistant Coach
Lyndsey was the Assistant Coach of the 2009/2010 Midget AA team in Durham West.
Lyndsey is an Ajax resident, and has played in the DWHGA organization for over 15 years. Once Lyndsey finished her career at Durham West, she was recruited to play for the University of Toronto Blues. As a stay at home defenseman, she was named to the CIS All-Star team in 2008 to play against the Canadian under 22’s. Lyndsey was then named captain of the U of T Blues. Lyndsey was coached by Karen Hughes, a highly respected member of Canada’s International Hockey program.
Lyndsey brings with her strong leadership skills and most importantly the ability to share with the players what it takes to play at the highest levels of Women’s Hockey.
Jeremy Murphy – Assistant Coach
Jeremy is currently Owner/Head instructor of High Tempo Hockey, prior to this served over 15 years as Head Instructor at Hockey Extreme in Toronto. High Tempo Hockey is based in Durham and concentrates on power skating, and skills training. Jeremy runs numerous camps/programs that support both males and females in the Durham region. Background includes playing Junior and CIS Hockey, as well as Player/Coach development at all levels of hockey. Jeremy lives in Bowmanville, is married with a young daughter. Jeremy brings the ability to teach the technical skills required to compete at this level. For more about Jeremy go to www.hightempohockey.net
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:
The Coaching staff will challenge the players to compete at the highest level. We will develop the technical skills of the players, Hockey Systems will be put in place that allow for individual creativity. The players selected will be well conditioned; self motivated and have a passion for the game. There will be a strong team first philosophy implemented.
Our goal as a Coaching Staff is to make every girl on this team a better hockey player not only individually, but also as a responsible team mate. They will feel comfortable and confident to contribute in all situations we put them in.
Other details include:
- Fitness program will be developed and monitored throughout the year
- Will participate in Showcase tournaments
- Will visit both US/Canadian Universities
- Will work in conjunction with the Midget AA program to ensure player development.
- Program will include strong on ice instruction, high tempo practices
- Program will be run like a varsity University/College program, and will be developed basis input from players.
Durham West has the luxury of having their own dressing room – they play out of Ajax Community Centre – pad 1. Their dressing room is outfitted with a stereo system, TV/video equipment and a skate sharpener.
