Well it was another successful weekend for Midget BB as the Lightning played their way into the tournament finals in Peterborough this past weekend. It was a hard fought, emotion filled weekend of hockey where the girls posted two shutout wins. “I felt the girls put in a solid effort for the most part, with goaltenders Amy Murray and Rebecca Sitzer standing on their heads at times to keep the team in the mix.” Said Coach Welsh
Two wins a tie (and a “we ran out of time”) were enough to propel the girls into the finals vs. division rival Clarington. The teams coaching staff use many inspirational sayings to motivate them to play hard the most interesting analogy came from Assistant Coach Rick Murray, he told the girls that not being successful in the final would be a kin to kiss’n your brother! Yuck, spit, spit cough was the reaction; so much so that this motivational tool, must have had the opposite effect as the team was unsuccessful in our bid for the gold.
In the end the girls had a great time in the attempt and they played five games over this weekend; for those keeping score, this is the second finish in the finals out of three tourneys …. not that we are are; ummm counting or anything!
