Friday, January 8, 2010

The Durham Junior Lightning made it a weekend road trip to play two games against the Ottawa Jr Senators at the Senisplex on the January 2-3 weekend.

Saturday's game was marked by two goals from Canadace Robbescheuten. The first was in the first period, assisted by Gillian Morgan and was a short-handed goal. This put Durham on the scoreboard first but the goal was unfortunately answered back by Ottawa with two first period goals. Facing some penalty trouble in the second, Durham fell behind an additional goal.

In the third Robbescheuten scored again, unassisted at 3:54.  Chantal Bicket had 30 saves.

On Sunday, Durham played an early ten o'clock start and managed a close result but was unfortunately on the short side by a single goal.  Jennifer Lawrence lead off the scoring with a goal in the first at 10:21, assisted by Tiffany Toong and Carly Marchment. Then, Gillian Morgan scored on a power play, assisted by Candace Robbescheuten at 13:14.

The second period was scoreless for Durham but the Senators managed to score while using an extra attacker while on a power play. Tiffany Toong opened the third with a goal at 0:55, assisted by Carly Marchment and Jennifer Lawrence. Victoria Powers turned away 41 shots in a valiant effort.

Next up, Durham continues with a road trip to Hamilton on Friday January 8 and a home stand against Cambridge at the Ajax Community Centre at 7:30 pm on January 9th.
