January was a cold month for the Durham Junior Lightning as they were frozen out from wins in a four game stretch.
On January 15, the Lightning travelled to Lakeshore Lions Arena to take on the Etobicoke Junior Dolphins and were shut out, in a 5-0 loss. Chantal Bicket and Victoria Powers shared goalie duties with Powers recording the loss.
On January 23, the Lightning hosted the KW Waterloo Junior Rangers, again with a losing result. Jocelynne Hudgins scored the lone Durham marker at 18:56 of the third, unassisted. Again the goalies shared net duty, this time with Bicket recording the loss.
On the 29th, Durham ventured out to Central Arena in Burlington, and managed 3 goals against the Burlington Barracudas. JocelynneHudgins opened the scoring with a goal at 4:01 of the first, assisted by Sarah Thomson and Caitlyn Nat. Then, Tiffany Toong potted a power play effort at 8:14 assisted by Nicole Hishon. Chantal Robbescheuten added an additional marker in the second at 3:07 assisted by Alex Vallee, and Jennifer Lawrence. Unfortunately, all the scoring after this point was Burlington's resulting in another loss for Durham.
Finally, on January 30, the Lightning hosted the Bluewater Junior Hawks in a lopsided effort. Alannah Wakefield opened Durham's scoring in the first with a power play goal at 8:45, assisted by Gillian Morgan. In the second, Jennifer Lawrence team up with Alix Vallee and Kristen McDonald for a marker at 2:46 and Kristen McDonald rounded out the second with a pair of goals, the first at 8:18, off assists from Shannon Stewart and Gillian Morgan, and the second at 11:56, assisted by Nicole Hishon and Sarah Thomson. Once again, Durham was closed out of scoring opportunites in the third while Bluewater went on a bit of a scoring blitz, ending the game with an 11-4 loss.
Next up the Junior Lightning will travel to Ottawa to participate in the Winterlude Tournament. Their next home game is February 13, with an away game against Cambridge preceding it on the 12th in Cambridge.
